In this post I will describe the method to format Nokia 5th edition (touch-screen) phones. All Symbian S60 phones (2nd, 3rd and 5th edition phones like Nokia 5800XpressMusic, 5530XpressMusic, 5230, 5233, C6, X6, N97 etc and Symbian^3 phones) can be formatted by the so called formatting codes (*#7370# or *#7780#) which I have described in this post. If however the phone is not in a state to enter the codes (Not starting-up or white screen) then follow the steps described below to hard reset it:
1. Hard Reset (Three-key combo) method for Nokia 5800XM/5530XM/5230/5233/5250/C6/X6/C5-05 – Switch-off the phone (Remove the battery and re-insert it, if necessary). Now Press and HOLD the GREEN (Call) key, RED (Call end) key and the Camera-capture key SIMULTANEOUSLY. While still pressing the above three keys press the power On/Off key. Continue pressing all the three keys until phone boots up and shows the formatting screen.
2. Nokia N97 and N97 mini – Press and HOLD the LEFT SHIFT key, SPACEBAR key and the BACK key simultaneously. While still holding the above three keys, press power-on button, hold them until the phone boots-up.
NOTE however that the format will erase all the data in phone memory and you will also lose your free music that came with the phone. Also make sure to fully charge the phone’s battery before the format process.
If the hard reset method does not work then flashing remains the only way to relive a dead/bricked phone (Described in this post).

does it remain in warranty..
does all my basic phone software will remai dat i got when i bought the phone…

Unfortunately if the phone asks for lock code and it was changed from 12345 to something else than only flashing can remove the lock code (It cant be formatted via codes or key-combos)…..

Unfortunately after a hard reset you will not be able to play your earlier bought songs from Ovi store. But the phone will definitely remain in warranty and all your phones basic software will remain the same plus your Ovi unlimited scheme will not vanish….

HEY AFTTER HARD RESET MY PHONE IS NOT SPEAKING THE CALLER'S NAME AS BEFORE IT USED TO SPEAK THE NAME IN BETWEEN THE RINGTONE.

Dear,
Your lock code has been changed from default 12345. Either you or someone else has changed it already. Without the proper lock code you can not use this method to format the phone. In this case you will have to flash your phone with JAF or Phoenix. For flashing tutorial you may refer to these posts here and here.

Unfortunately there is no way out in this situation. You will have to flash your phone if you had forget your lock code.

If i perform soft reset will it change any of the info on my memory card will it get erased ? ? Will internet and downloading work properly. Plz tell . Right now problem with the phone is that you tube videos are buffering past one week !and i am unable to play so will soft reset solve this ? ? ?

Memory card is not affected by hard or soft reset. I am not sure whether reset will solve this issue.

Press Green and red keys along with the camera capture key simultaneously hold the on/off power key??!!! what do you mean? Hold four keys all at a time? Not possible by single person..you need a assistant

i have format Nokia N8 code *#7370# after requited Nokia code 12345 is not work code error
