OPERA MINI UPDATE 5.1: MINI STRIPPED OF GLOSSY ICONS AND THUMBNAILS

I became surprised when I saw the update of Opera mini 5 yesterday. Perhaps someone at Opera Mini HQ read my post “Opera Mini 5 sucks and should not be upgraded in s60v2 phones” and accepted my suggestions as such. This is reflected in the recent update of Opera Mini 5 (Version 5.1). In the newer version the visual delight of Mini 5.0 (Thumbnails, cute icons in the menu, rounded corners) has been cut out to a large extent (This may upset some users who will miss the beautiful interface and speed dial thumbnails). However all this stripping is only for low memory (RAM) phones and latest smartphone (Symbian S60 3rd, 5th ed., Android, Blackberry etc) users will continue to enjoy the visual delight as in older version.
For low memory mobiles (Symbian S60v2 etc) this update has resulted in a considerable improvement in launch speed, operating speed and page loading time. I tested it against the Mini 5.0 and it is definitely faster in Nokia N70.
In my opinion it is a welcome move as the OM 5.0 was very slow in older mobile models with scarce RAM on-board (Like Symbian S60 2nd edition and older S40 mobiles). Thanks Opera developers for listening to user’s feedback. Keep the good work of improvement guys.
Besides Symbian and Java phones, Opera Mini 5 is now available for Android (final version, out of beta), Blackberry, iPhone and Windows Mobile platforms also. To download the latest version
