Opera Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 are out for download

As the tech world was busy watching Sprint’s CTIA, Opera silently updated Opera Mini to version 6 and opera Mobile to version 11. It was announced at the official Opera Press Releases site. Interestingly there were no beta releases of this version as was the trend with earlier versions of Opera’s mobile browsers and this fact took everyone by surprise. For the joy of Android tablet owners (Xoom, Flyer etc) this latest version of Opera Mini and Mobile is also available for them. Some new features in version 6 are:

Smoother functioning – Scrolling, panning and zooming in the web pages has been improved

Pinch-to-zoom – support in the devices that have this function

Sharing – (remember Skyfire) Opera Mini and Mobile’s new versions feature a share button, so you can easily post, tweet, or share on Facebook or My Opera or anywhere

The new versions are also optimized for tablets (touch screens)

Opera Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 are available for all major mobile platforms (Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian, Blackberry, Java and Maemo) and can be downloaded free from

Opera has created a page showing a theater like picture with a band performing at the stage, the text at the page reads:
“Join the biggest band on Earth
7 platforms, 3,000 devices, 100,000,000 users”
7 platforms are different mobile OSes (Windows, Java, Symbian, Blackberry, iOS, Android and MeeGo).
