Update – Unfortunately this method is not working in Nokia Belle phones, so if you are looking to hack a Symbian mobile having Belle then please refer to this new post. The following method works perfectly in Anna and older Symbian phones.
In a recent post I described “Flashing the phone with a hacked uda” to hack Symbian^3 phones. However a new Symbian hacking method emerged recently which is extremely easy and simple (no flashing or custom uda required thus no risk of dead phone). Actually this method utilizes the all capability (system read/write access) credentials of an antivirus app to copy the three .ldd files (ROM Patcher driver files) inside C:/sys/bin folder. ROMPatcher hacks the phone with the help of these files (only if the files are present at a specific location – C:/sys/bin).
Anyway, exactly follow the steps given below to hack any Symbian phone within minutes –
1. If you have memory card as “E:/” drive in your phone (as in older phones without mass storage memory) or if there is only Mass memory and no memory card inserted in new phones – then download this file (zip archive)
However, if your phone has mass memory and memory card as well (memory card will become “F:/” drive in newer phones like N8) then download this zip file
Remember that the zip file MUST be chosen according to the phone (whether memory card is “E” or “F” drive in your phone).
2. Extract the zip file in PC and open the folder named “Private” (that is inside the zip file). Copy the entire folder “20024113” (that is inside “Private”).
3. Connect the phone with PC (using data cable) in “Mass Storage Mode“. Make sure that DO NOT connect the phone in Nokia Ovi Suite mode plus make sure that neither Nokia PC Suite nor Nokia Suite is running when you connect the phone with PC (because system folders can not be accessed in these modes). Alternatively you may also connect the Memory card with PC via a card reader.
4. Now go to My Computer and open memory card connected to PC (make sure that you are opening memory card and not mass memory in new phones). Now find and open the “Private” folder and paste the above copied “20024113” folder inside it. Now disconnect the phone (or memory card) from PC. If you don’t see “Private” folder in memory card then enable the “Show hidden and System files” option in your PC. If there is no “Private” folder still then create it yourself in the root of Memory Card.
5. Download Dr. Web Anti-virus app from here and install it (select Memory card as the installation location). Run Dr. Web app from menu (cancel the warning) and go to “Options/Quarantine“. Select all three files in Quarantine via “Options/Select All”. Now select “Options/Restore”. Exit Dr.Web
6. Download ROMPatcher+(signed) from here and install it in the phone. Launch ROMPatcher from menu and go to “Options/All Patches/Apply”. On selecting “Apply” the installed patches will become activated.
Bingo! Now your phone is hacked and you can install any unsigned app plus have full access to system folders (read/write to sys/private) via X-plore etc. No need of any damn certificate/key…….. R.I.P. SymbianSigned!!!
However these patches will become deactivated on restarting the phone. If you want to make them permanently “activated” then launch ROM Patcher and go to Options and select “Add to auto” to all the patches one by one.This method is applicable to all Symbian 3rd, 5th ed, Symbian^3 and Symbian Anna phones (but not Belle). You can uninstall Dr. Web app after the process is over. Also note that doing a Hard reset/format will un-hack the phone and you will have to repeat the process again.
For any help or problem feel free to comment and do share your experience here.
UPDATE (1) - It looks like that in older E series phones the above method is not working as good as in newer 5th ed and Symbian^3 devices. Some possible solutions include -
1. Format/hard reset the phone and try again
2. Update the phone to the latest available firmware and then try the hacking method again
UPDATE (2) - If your phone is still giving error during unsigned app installation after successfully applying the above hack (or red cross appears in ROM Patcher on applying the patch) then download this file (contains hacked installservers for all S60 versions) and extract the contents. Now select and copy the correct “installserver.exe” (according to your phone) and paste in phone’s C:/sys/bin folder (use X-plore to do this). Restart the phone and done.
By Symbian hacking we generally mean – full read/write access to system folders and ability to install any unsigned app/game without any error. Besides many advanced mods are possible only in a hacked phone.
If the above hack does not work for you anyhow then try these similar hacks (described in this post).

Buddy check that you have downloaded and placed the correct zip file. For C7 it should be “Quarantine_F_drive”….

Try this – Run ROM Patcher and go to OptionsAdd to auto, do it for all the patches and see if it works on the next restart….let me know too….and by the way I perfectly dont mind to be called a Doc (that is what I am in fact!!!

i found ur new method a great effort for people like us, who always hanged wd finding certificat etc.
I hv worked out both method signtool,and hackd firmware for all my family and friends mobile.but few month b4 my friend mob need cert and key which i was unable to.
I aplied 4 symbiansign method.but it wont worked always.
2day i found ur post by chance and it works.
But dear dr i worked it out by other way which i wish to discuse wd u.
I hv my hackd mobile in wch y browser installed.i took my friend mamory card and put it in my mobile .and paist folder 20024113 in its private folder.also copied dr web and rompatcher in mamory card.and then returned hm back and followed procedur.it realy works.

You can also use mass storage memory for this (although I have not tried it) – use Quarantine_E file in this case (as Mass storage is usually the “E” drive in phone). Also install Dr.Web app in Mass storage memory and follow the rest of the process as given.

This is unusual buddy! Either you have not connected C7 in mass storage mode with PC (in phone go to “MenuSettingsConnectivityUSB and set the Mass storage as default and try again) or your computer is not showing you system/hidden folders (check it in computer by going to “ToolsFolder options” and see whether the option “Show hidden filesfoldes” is checked or not)….let me know if this solves the issue….gud luck

Actually the error “/sys/bin/….ldd not found” denotes that the three files have not been copied to the sysbin folder. That means the procedure has not been followed as described…..otherwise the Dr.Web app would have shifted the files in that folder and the error would not have happened….carefully repeat all the steps again

I can’t get the application to restore the files. It always takes two tries of select all then restore for anything to happen. After the second try a status bar that says working pops up. After that it just hangs there.
I’m using a Nokia E63 that was patched with the 3 files and used the phoenix firmware method to inject. Although it installed the firmware perfectly. Rompatcher would not install the first patch. I installed the original firmware and tried the above method again, but the same working status bar came up. It still says working 10 minutes later.

This method did not work on my older Nokia E71. It all seems to go well until I run the RomPatcher app. Only the middle patch [Open4All RP+] seems to take. While the other two [Install Server RP+ and Open4All_RP+] display a red X after Options/All Patches/Apply.

Older (3rd ed initial release and FP1) phone owners, if the patches that come bundled with ROMPatcher+ are not working in your device then please download the installserver patch (and other patches) according to your device by searching Google (easily available at various Symbian forums) and copy them to “C:Patches” folder (replace the existing ones in the folder)….this will solve the issue

I’d recently moved to android, and was asked by a friend to help with the certificate thing. Wondering why the websites I earlier used weren’t working, I luckily through a google search, found your post. And couldn’t believe that they had stopped making certificates for symbian. but I’m happy this is a grate hack that has came out and yep the certs and keys can rest in peace for good!
I also liked your other post on updating the firmware although this one is much better.

Thanks for such a useful post. i surely will try it. but i do need to ask u a question regarding the previous procedure. i have nokia e63. i followed each and every step u mentioned in the tutorial, except i could not find any .uda.fpsx file. instead i found a .v42 which opened in ‘the cooker’ with an error ‘invalid dir entry z:’. i found another .43U file which opened in ‘the cooker’ without any error. at first i used .v42 file added the hack files (03 .idd files) and tried to flash. but it showed on pc that it is successful but phone did not boot. i re flashed to original, then used .43U file done the same steps and no error occured. phone started up. i installed rompatcher+ and applied all patches but could not install any unsigned file after that. can u suggest what might be happening?

Bhai, do not mess up with firmware files – it may well brick your phone permanently, instead use the “Antivirus” app method, many readers have informed me that it is working fine in E63….let me know of any other problem….gud luck

Hi, I DL all three recommended files. I have E7, as you know E7 doesn’t have card, so I copied “20024113”folder inside of Private folder into E7 mass memory ‘other’ folder. Dr Web has been installed E7 mass memory ‘install’ folder, then installed Dr Web.
When I open Dr Web, been asked getting ‘key’ but I canceled as followed your instruction’, then open ‘option’, ‘Quarantine’….but nothing there.
SO I can’t go further. Please give me your advice.

You have done it all wrong buddy! The private folder inside “Other” folder is not the intended folder. The “Private” folder that I mentioned in the post is a hidden folder found among the folders that show up when you open the E drive and this folder can only be accessed by connecting the phone to the computer in “Mass storage” mode.

Is there anyone experienced the device became unstable after hacking?

Dear you have done it all wrong! DO NOT use PC Suite to copy the folder in E storage because you will not have access to E:/private folder this way.. Instead use “Mass storage mode” or use a memory card reader to access E:/private folder and that is where (inside “Private” folder) you have to paste the desired folder. try and let me know if this solves your issue….gud luck

I was trying for a LONG time to hack my E75 (software version 211.12.01) without success, and finally I managed it! Although you report that the method doesn’t work on older 3rd edition S60′s, I tried it anyway and was able to install the unsigned version of Nokia Maps 3.04.

My N8 has recently been formatted all the applications along with builtin videos and games are deleted. Earlier I was able to access the privale folder but somehow it is not showing in my mass memory.
I also tried to create a new folder with “Private” but it is showing that the folder is already available. I am however unable to see that folder.
Can you please advise what should I do to view the same?

If I search in sys/bin for patchers.dwq I can’t find them. Where should I manually go to disinstall them, once I deactivated patches apply from RomPatcher and uninstalled it? For some reason my previous comment is still waiting moderation after several days.
I have followed this method but get stuck at the very end. When I use DrWebb to restore the files it all looks OK but when I run RomPatcher I get an error; \sys\binPatcher*.LDD Not Found!.
When I check with X-plore I don’t seem to have a bin folder in my sys folder on C:
Any ideas what I’ve done wrong?

And without hacking process is complete X-plore will not show anything inside C:/sys

What the heck! Yours seems to be the most difficult case in this matter. Try this – format the phone by *#7370# (this will remove any hacking files or settings left in the phone). Then follow the Dr.Web method once again. Let me know if this works….

I got Nokia C6-01 !!
Settings-> Application Manager-> Instalation settings and Deactivated the option: “Verify certificates online”….. and well thanks the hack WORKS perfectly

The format was a bit scary. I lost a lot of settings and pre-installed themes and games and music but the hack went smoothly. Unfortunately I restored a backup which got back some stuff but stopped the hack from working so I had to repeat the process and not restore.
I have only had my N8 for a month or so and I think the problem was that it came with a lot of pre-installed software and apps. Formatting cleaned them all out and it certainly looks different from when I first got it from my network provider.

thanks a lot. Sir i aplied the procedure to my nokia 5233 .on sucessful completion , i am able to instal those apptions, for which i used to face the problem of ”cert error” or ”cert expired”. BUT SIR the apps showing : ”constrained by cert” still DO NOT install (realty sir) .is there any soln. Dear Zuhair,
Phone memory is occupied by bluetooth messages (containing multimedia files like videos and songs) stored in phone memory in most cases. So find and move/save such messages elsewhere (in memory card). Let me know if this solves your memory issue.

Dear Jay, if you have successfully hacked your phone using the above method then Run ROMPatcher and apply the “open4all” patch – exit ROMPatcher and run X-plore – now you should be able to locate and open sys/bin folder…..let me know if this solves your issue

I install DrWeb than install ROM Patcher, I was only able to successfully path Open4All RP+ the other one was RED, so I tried Update 2 and placed the nstallserver.exe in c:/sys/bin… than restart my mobile..
But still there are some application on which I am getting Constrained by Certificate error.

Its very simple bro, just launch ROM Patcher and go to “Options/Add to auto”. Do this for all the patches and done! now you dont have to enable patches manually on restart.

You may remove Dr Web app but not ROM Patcher as it is essential for hacking.

Hey I followed the guide and……After downloading and installing DrWeb_AV.sis it gave me a warning during installation saying “this application is only for Nokia phones”. I ignored this message and hit “Ok” and then it said “installation complete”. The phone model is Sony Ericcson U8i.
Please help me figure out how to hack it so that I no longer have to worry about signing apps. Thanks.

hi i have hacked my phone before(nokia 5228) useing coderus (norton + rompatcher+ installserver), but i had a problem with my QT instalation. i decided to fromat phone an since then i wasnt able to hack my phone again
. i tried like 10 times with different ways, including this, but still nothing. i do exactly what u said and i still get the certificat error. any ideeas?

this is what i did. maiby i was wrong somewhere. i instal norton and restore the quaratine file. then i instal the rompatcher and apply the 2 patches and then i copy the installserver and paste him in C/sys/bin and the i restart phone. am i wrong with something?

no you are right but check that you have used the correct installserver. If it does not solve the issue then hard reset the phone and try again

i did it again but by mistake ofc. i first instaled and older coderus norton hack which had only 1 file in the quarantine section. then i instaled the rompatcher. but the rom patcher didnt worked cas it was missing the dll files in c/sys/bin. so i uninstaled the norton and instaled the new norton hack with the 3 files in qurantine. then opened the rompatcher and put the patches and…. voila the hack was done. i guess i needed both nortons to make it work. idk why but it finaly worked

Hey, everything seems to work until I try to restore the patches from quarantine – the files merely duplicate themselves in the quarantine folder within Dr Web and the RomPatcher then says it can’t find them when I try to run it. I’ve tried on a e71 and and e63 – is there any workaround for this?

Hi i already follow all the inrtuctions here but when i try to go in dr. web anti virus and i already select all the patch and restore and will become double i mean (DUPLICATE) can you help me about this, My system driver is F: and i download the correct drives and still become duplicate, Actually i also tried the E: and the same problem i face, Please help for me this thanks.

This “doubling” of files is the most strange thing I have ever encountered regarding this hack. I have not experienced it myself though so cant help right now….:(

Hey bro i can help you this has happened to me you just backup your phone contacts and everything else you need and do hard reset by pressing *#7370# ok hope this ans will solve your prob
This prob occurs because when you keep quartine files they just multiply system thinks them as images and produces systemic icons of it this causes prob

Buddy this is not due to the hack, perhaps you have way too many apps in your phone. So better format the phone and do not install each and every single app you get from anywhere.

hi sir, i do all as you say for hacking the phone. But when i installed dr. Antivirus and go to quarantine where i do select all firstly there comes three files and i do restore then there comes 6 files, the name of last 3 files was same as the first 3. Then again i do select all and restore then on the mobile screen working is written and only processing happens and it remains continue. Please help me out from this trouble. My mobile is nokia n73 and its version is v 4.0839.42.2.1. Thank you in advance.

I’m having Nokia E 7.
Few Days ago I change my password and then I forgot it. I can’t access my phone. So I Reset phone by using menu key, camera key. power key and volume control key. After I reset it reboot and ask me to set the pass word. I gave him a new pass word and confirm it too. After that it ask me again pass word to go in. When I gave new password it saying code error. I still stuck without accessing the security code. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

When I restored the files from Quarentin, these 3 files just got copied right at the quarentin in DR web. Sir, please let’s talk soon, without hacking, the talking software doesn’t work and as long as talks is not installed in it’s full version, I won’t be independent means I have to rely upon sighted people to figure out many things on the phone.

hi!!! i used your method, it works fine, bu there is a a problem, today my phone got hanged, like real hanged, couldn’t start at all, i had to hard set it. after hard set, i deleted previous installed apps and there files… now when i’m re hacking my phone, i just can’t modify or del the private folder, and it’s not showing in the phone. in pc it says cannot remove folder private: the directory or file is corrupted and unreadable. plz help!!

2> Now i have installed Dr. web on my “E” drive!

Thanks Doc. for these tips. However, before I proceed, I need to know if I will lose installed apps stored in my memory card when I do this. Do I have to uninstall the already installed apps from my memory card?
Secondly, I need you to tell me where to install each app. I noticed in the comments that RomPatcher should be installed in C: . What about the rest of the softwares? If you can make a simple list that’d be nice. Thanks again.

No, hacking will not affect any installed app in any way and you don’t need to uninstall anything. You can install ROM Patcher in any drive but Dr.Web app must be installed in the drive (E or F) where you have copied the “Private” folder contents.
