(How to) Rename Installed apps and Special Folders in Symbian S60 Phones

In Symbian (S60) mobiles, apps are installed with a predefined name and there is no option in the phone to change it. By apps name I mean the text that appear under the application’s icon, for example Opera Mini shows up as “Opera Mini” under its icon.

You may ask why change the default name? Well, may be just for fun or consider this – I installed “Oupeng” (the Chinese avatar of Opera Mini), after installation the app showed up with a weird name (four boxes) because my phone does not recognizes the Chinese font. Now it would be really helpful if the name could be changed to “Oupeng” in English.
So, how to change apps name to a custom value? It’s really simple with the help of a small application called “AppRename”. Besides installed apps you can also change the name of Special default folders (like Music, Web TV, Tools, Office etc) using AppRename.

Download AppRename from here and install in your phone
Launch it from “Menu/Applications” – a list of apps and App folders will show up
Go to the app (or folder) you want to rename
Go to “Options/Rename item”
In the “Enter new name” field enter the desired name and select OK and done
Easy and fun!!
I have tested AppRename in my Nokia N8 (Belle) so it should work fine in all other Symbian^3/Anna/Belle phones (Nokia 808, C7, E7 etc).
