(How to) Record Screen Capture Video in Symbian Phones Using Remote S60 Pro

Note – As RS60 Pro does not work smoothly in most Symbian phones, it is recommended to use Mobiola Web Camera for S60 app for this purpose instead of RS60 Pro – refer to this post to download Mobiola WebCam.

It is often very easy to explain any process via a short video in comparison to a lengthy text-only tutorial. That is why video-recording of phones screen is often required for my tutorial posts. Here is how you can make a high quality video of your phone-screen activity – there are many wonderful screen-capture softwares for PC but unfortunately very few for Symbian mobiles. Remote S60 Professional is one such app for Symbian. As the name suggests Remote S60 Pro let you operate the phone via any Windows PC. Most of the phone functions can be controlled via computer (Windows only). Besides there are two other useful functions this app can do very efficiently – takes screenshot of phone’s screen and record screen activity as a video. So with the help of Remote S60 Pro you can make a high quality video (in .avi format) of everything happening at the phone screen. Download Remote S60 Pro from here. Extract the archive (contains installation files for both PC and phone) and install RS60 Pro in phone and PC.

Launch the app in both phone and computer

Now connect the phone with computer (preferably using data cable)

Phone’s screen will start to show at computer, if not then go to RS60 Pro menu in phone and select “Connect via USB”.

Now to record the screen video, click “Save” button (camcorder icon) just below the menu bar. A small option-bar (having video recording controls) will pop-up at the left side of app.

RS60 Pro_video_recordingClick the record button (upper red/black circle at the pop-up bar). A “Save As” window will open. Choose the location, enter the name of video and click “Save” button. RS60 Pro will start recording screen activity in .avi video format. You may pause or stop the recording via the same pop-up bar at any time.
I have successfully used RS60 Pro for recording screen videos of my Nokia N8. However this app is a little difficult to use and buggy as of now, mind you. So good luck…
