YourTube is an open source, full-featured YouTube downloader app for Java supporting mobiles. Before the development of YourTube, downloading YouTube videos was an elusive thing for feature phone users. Despite being a small J2ME app (less than 50 Kb!), YourTube does its intended job pretty well. This is evident by the fact that even high quality HD videos can also be downloaded via YourTube. It can also play YouTube videos if the phone supports this function (Flash/flashlite support).
Following are its main features –
1. You can search and play (if supported by phone) any YouTube video at YourTube
2. Any video can be downloaded via YourTube in MP4 (720p or 360p) or FLV (480p, 360p or 240p) formats
3. There is also an option to set the download drive (C, D, or F drive) – where YourTube will download videos
4. YourTube supports pause/resume while downloading a video and also supports multiple downloads at a time
YourTube is said to be compatible with almost all Java (J2ME) supporting phones – be it a low-end feature phone or a high-end one (Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson etc). I tested it at my Nokia N8 and it runs perfectly fine (all touch screen functions are supported) in both landscape and portrait mode. However there is no split-screen keyboard support still plus volume up/down also did not work while playing a video. These are minor issues considering other features of the app and the fact that it is constantly being updated by the developer.
YourTube is an open source app (download from here). Interestingly it is also available at Nokia store for a price (whatever happened to “Open source”).
You can also download a handler mod version of YourTube from here.
