Asus announces ZenFone AR at CES 2017

January 5, 2017, Las Vegas
In a jam-packed “Zennovation” press event at CES 2017, Asus announced their new crop of electronic devices in Vegas on Thursday. The list is long – ZenFone AR, ZenFone 3 Zoom, AIO, Mother board, Zenbook and ROG products etc. Out of the many “innovations”, our main interest revolves around the new Asus ZenFone AR phone. Like ZenFone 2 (which was the first 4 GB RAM phone at launch), ZenFone AR is the first ever phone to have an unbelievable 8 Gigs of RAM. Like with other Asus phones however, only the top/premium model will have this much of RAM.

ZenFone AR (AR stands for Augmented Reality) will be the world’s first smartphone that is both Tango enabled and Daydream-ready. Tango is a set of sensors and computer-vision software by Google that incorporate augmented reality capabilities in a smart phone. Daydream is Google’s platform for high-quality mobile virtual reality (VR) with support for Daydream VR apps. ZenFone AR is also the world’s first Tango enabled device powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, and is designed to deliver cutting-edge smartphone augmented reality (AR) experience. Despite having a powerful 3-camera setup ZenFone AR is one of the most light and thin devices around. This breakthrough in size and weight is made possible by the innovative ASUS TriCam™ system, a three-camera system consisting of a 23MP main camera, motion-tracking camera, and depth-sensing camera. Unlike three-camera systems in other devices, the design of the ASUS TriCam system smartly clusters its array of cameras to reduce their footprint within the phone, enabling the entire phone to be thinner and lighter. Here is a quick break-up of the specifications and main features of Zenfone AR
