CuteTube 2 (the only working Symbian/MeeGo YouTube downloader app) updated to version 2.0.5.3

CuteTube update fixes the YouTube API issue in Symbian/MeeGo phones

If you are a Symbian phone user and fan then CuteTube should be a familiar name. It is a free, full-featured YouTube/DailyMotion/Vimeo client app for Symbian which can stream/download HD videos from these sites. There were many such apps for Symbian few years back (you may read this older post which enlists all such apps) but due to change in YouTube API, none of them works now. And since developers have also stopped updating their Symbian apps, it is unlikely that this issue will be fixed in the near future. Fortunately Stuart Howarth, the developer of CuteTube, has come up with a new version of the app recently with a completely re-written code. The new app, CuteTube 2 fixes the YouTube incompatibility issue and is working perfectly to stream/download YouTube videos in High Definition. This is a rare occurrence now as very few Symbian apps are still getting updates.

CuteTube2 Symbian free youtube downloader app

Salient features of cuteTube2

  • Access multiple YouTube, Dailymotion and Vimeo accounts
  • Browse, search, play and download videos
  • Search playlists and channels
  • Share videos via email and social networks (MeeGo-Harmattan only)
  • Support for additional services via plugins
  • Optional user-defined authentication credentials and access scopes

The developer promises to continue the development of CuteTube in the future too. We salute such developers who are still working for the good old Symbian OS. Thanks for keeping the spirit alive guys! And we also appeal our readers and other Symbian fans to generously donate money to developers like Stuart Howarth. This way you will support further development of Symbian apps.

Download CuteTube2

CuteTube2 is free and you can download latest version from the official site (v2.0.5.3 as a sis file for Symbian). Separate versions are available for Symbian, Maemo5 and MeeGo-Harmattan. Note also that CuteTube2 will install as a new app even if you already have older CuteTube (version 1.xx) in your phone; this is because of the new name and UID. So better un-install the older one which is useless now.

Update (February 2017)CuteTube2 just got updated to version 2.0.5.3 with some bug-fixes.

I just installed the app and when I opened it, it just gives me a black screen only and shows nothing. What do I do?

Which phone do you have? I am using CuteTube2 in Nokia N8 and it’s working perfectly well.

      Have n701 Belle FP2 1 of 10 videos open 🙁

Unfortunately it is kind of a “hit or miss” process

I am using Nokia C7 but on Symbian Anna.

    • Shoaib December 9, 2016 at 3:24 PM #

It may be a Symbian Anna compatibility issue. Why don’t you upgrade to Belle?

      • Georg February 21, 2017 at 3:30 PM #

Hi Shoaib, I am using C7 Belle and just downloaded CuteTube2 0.5.3. The program works, I can search for videos and it asks me about the desired video quality. After having choosen the quality just a blank sreen appears (and no failure messages). Any hint what I could check/try? Thanks and regards. Georg

          Hi Georg
I am using CuteTube2 since it was first released. No doubt it is the only app left now for this purpose but it is not bug-free. Understandably so considering the fact that an amateur, independent developer has created it on his own (hats off!). Sometimes it behaves weirdly giving various errors and sometimes it works perfectly. Sometimes it refuses to download videos (or a particular video) whatever you do. If I face such problems I simply exit it and try again after sometime. And it works most of the times.

Hi Shoaib, thanks a lot for your reply – I am aware that the belle software is outdated and that apps which has been programmed by idealists may have bugs – I will live with it. Best regards, Georg

You mght be right! Please give me advice on upgrading.

    • Shoaib December 9, 2016 at 10:01 PM #

As Microsoft has closed down the Nokia firmware update servers, you can not upgrade via phone’s inbuilt Software Update function. Delight Belle is the best custom firmware to consider in this scenario for your Nokia C7.

What about the new NSRT update? Won’t it work? I would prefer the official version of the Symbian Belle. Thanks a bunch for the previous advices!

  6. Emeka December 11, 2016 at 12:13 AM #

I know it’s not possible to upgrade via phone’s inbuilt Software Update function, but can’t I use NSRT? If not, I will appreciate if you give me more details on the Delight Belle you mentioned earlier. Thanks!

    • Shoaib December 11, 2016 at 1:37 AM #

Unfortunately NSRT is non-functional now. Still you can use the method described in this post to download official firmware for your phone. Follow the steps described in this post to flash the phone with the downloaded firmware files.

I tried the Nokia and Lumia Firmware Downloader in the post given. I get an invalid product cde response. My product code is 059D7M4. What do I do next?

    • Shoaib December 12, 2016 at 10:55 PM #

Tough luck pal! Fortunately there is still a solution for you – use Delight Firmware for your C7 available here

  8. Emeka December 13, 2016 at 2:00 AM #

Thanks pal! I’ve saved the page and I will upgrade when I see a very good reason to. I don’t know why I got the Cute Tube in the first place. I thought it might buffer faster than inbuit player (don’t know if it thus, cos I haven’t tried). But thanks anyways for all the advice.

      Welcome dear! Glad to help.

    nokia n8

    • Shoaib February 20, 2017 at 12:05 PM #

I don’t have this problem in N8. May be it’s an issue with your phone.

      • nguenht March 1, 2017 at 4:39 PM #

I have the same problem on my c6-01, Belle Refresh. This only happens with the cuteTube’s in-built Video player, it seems that the player is stuck in portrait mode regardless of orientation, but in landscape you get half a picture and in portarait you get the whole picture, but it’s minimized to fit the screen. I tried to take a screenshoot, but it just shows a white screen.
I believe I had the same issue even before this, but I found a workaround by choosing “Media player” in the options instead of “cuteTube”. Thing is, this option doesn’t work for me anymore: when I open a video, a text document with an URL that I can’t copy-paste opens.
I don’t get what’s the cause of this issue, as just a month ago it worked fine for me.

        • ahaning April 21, 2017 at 5:41 AM #

I believe the problem is that Youtube is defaulting to HTTPS for streaming, while the built-in Media Player does not have the appropriate SSL libraries. As you say, the CuteTube player plays, but is very twitchy about the orientation of the video.
