As you may know Nokia has now closed its mobile firmware file repository to general public which means only authorized Nokia personnel can access them via login. To enforce this ordeal Nokia removed the “CareSuite External” sign in option from the new version of Nokia Care Suite (NCS). In older versions of NCS this option allowed anyone to download Nokia mobile firmware files. Now NCS has a single “Firmware repository for Care” option which allows only authorized Nokia logins. Wow Nokia! Nice try to keep us away from your file servers! But let me tell you one thing – you failed this time. Fortunately there is a workaround to bypass this protection.
So if you don’t have “CareSuite External” sign in option in Nokia Care Suite (either you may have lost it by updating older installation of NCS to the new version or have freshly installed the latest version of NCS) here is a simple method to get it back –
Make sure that Nokia Care Suite is not running in computer (close if it is)
Download modded configuration file from here
Go to the location where you have installed Nokia Care Suite in your computer for example it would be in
C:/ Program Files (x86) / Nokia/ Nokia Care Suite/ Product Support Tool For Store
if you have installed NCS in C: drive
In the above folder look for the file named “usergroupsconfiguration.cfg” and copy it to anywhere else in computer (to keep as a backup file)
Now go to the modded file you downloaded earlier and copy and paste it in the “Product Support Tool For Store” folder, confirm file overwrite warning – close the window when done – now launch Nokia Care Suite and bingo you have the external sign in option right there….
Update (Jan. 2016) – Unfortunately the new version of Nokia Care Suite does not allow users to download firmware files (giving “invalid credentials” error) even after getting CareSuite External option by the modified config file. So you will have to use alternative methods to download software files from Nokia servers. Here are some posts to help you in this matter –
