Nokia Firmware Downloader – new method to download Nokia phone software files

Update (October 2016) – Along with the recently updated NSRT (Nokia Software Recovery Tool), the website described in the following post is the only Nokia firmware downloader left now as Navifirm (and similar other softwares) is not working anymore. We are not sure however, whether these will work after December 31, 2016 or not.

As Microsoft has closed down almost every Nokia related service and sites, it is very difficult now to get software files of Nokia phones. We have enlisted some working methods to download Nokia firmware files in this older post. However most softwares (like Nokia Care Suite, Phoenix etc) for this purpose have stopped working now because Microsoft has shifted the firmware files to it’s own servers. Recently a webmaster has created an easy-to-use tool at his website for this purpose. Titled as “Nokia and Windows Phone Firmware Downloader”, this is perhaps the simplest method to download Nokia phone software files. Not only Nokia, this tool also supports Windows Phone devices from other manufacturers like LG etc. Unfortunately all Nokia product codes (especially the very old ones) are not supported by this tool.

How Nokia/Lumia Firmware Downloader works?
Nokia/Lumia Firmware Downloader is a web app/script which searches the Nokia firmware repository for a given product code and then fetches the download links of software files (for that particular code). As you may know every Nokia phone has a unique product code – a seven digit code in the format 0xxxxxx – a zero followed by six numerals/alphabets or a combination of both, for example product code for Nokia N8 (India Dark Grey variant) is 0599255. This product code is usually printed over the white sticker under phone’s battery or at the retail box. Besides you can also find it by dialing *#0000# at phone’s stand by screen (this method may or may not work depending upon the phone model).

To get the download links of firmware files open this page in your web browser – now enter the phone’s product code (in case of Nokia phones) or phone model (in case of LG phones) in the field provided at the page and click OK button – wait for a while as the download links will start appearing at the page one by one (download size will also be shown for each file). Once all the files are listed, you can download them one by one. However the download links are monetized by Adfly which is understandable as the webmaster deserves to earn some money for this great service. Many ISPs (like in India) have blocked adfly links so you will have to use a proxy or VPN to open adfly. Alternatively you may also use “Opera Turbo” option in Opera browser to bypass adfly block.

Nokia Firmware Downloader

Note – Using this method you can only download the newest available firmware for any Nokia phone (unlike paid version of Navifirm Plus which can be used to download older firmware versions also). For example you can download SW v111.040.1511 (which is the latest one available) for Nokia N8 using the above tool. While to download older software versions like 025.007 you will have to use Navifirm Plus. You may refer to this post to know about Navifirm Plus (Update – Navifirm is not working now)

Update – In the latest update (v4.6), the developer has renamed this tool as “Nokia and Windows Phone Firmware Downloader“. Another similar firmware downloader specific for Lumia/Windows Phone/Windows 10 devices is also available now (described in this post).

I think when you download them are to be used to re-install operating system(OS)/firmware of cellphone in consideration by using any of the flashing tools you may have that work for the nokia cellphones. After you have flashed your phone and then get your problem solved you can choose either to continue keeping those files for future use or deleting them.

I wish I could! The Downloader described in this post does not provide links to all Nokia phones firmware files. Infact many product codes I tried are not supported. Hopefully the developer will add more product codes in the future. You may ask the developer of that site directly.
