NOKIA 500 ANNOUNCED WITH SYMBIAN ANNA AND 1GHz PROCESSOR

It seems that Nokia is in a hurry flushing its manufacturing facilities and research labs of their zombie Symbian OS. They are just keeping Elop’s promise of shelling out “a significant number” of Symbian devices in the next two years. The recently announced Nokia 500 (Product ID – RM-750, 0x20035566) re-affirms this assumption. Nokia 500 is a Symbian Anna phone with only one significant positive – (an ARM 11), 1 GHz processor; otherwise its the same “old wine in the new bottle”. Here are its specifications and features –

1. CPU1 GHz, ARM11 processor, 256 MB RAM

2. OS – Symbian Anna developer platform with Symbian OS (Series60, Symbian^3), Qt version 4.7.3, Qt Mobility version 1.1.3, Java Runtime 2.2

3. Screen – 3.2 inch TFT, capacitive-touch display having 360*640 pixel resolution (same old!!)

4. Camera – 5 Megapixel Full focus (CMOS) camera, video recording at 640*480 (@15 fps) resolution (no 720p!).

5. Connectivity – HSDPA (Cat10) 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA (Cat6) 5.76, Mbps, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, Micro USB, USB OTG (On The Go), Wi-Fi (WLAN 802.11b/g), A-GPS and Nokia Maps

6. Web specs and Internet – Browser Version 7.3 (Nokia Browser/Mobile Safari), CSS and HTML 4.1 support, Javascript 1.8, Flash Lite 4.0, Nokia Messaging 3.1

7. Others – All the sensors (Magnetometer, Proximity, Ambient light etc), 2 GB internal storage, expandable upto 32 GB with MicroSD card, up to 7 hours GSM talk time, up to 35 hour Music play back time

From the specs it looks like that Nokia 500 will be a cheap (affordable) Symbian Anna phone (expected price around $200).
