Putting all rumors to rest, Nokia announced the new MeeGo powered Nokia N9 at Nokia Connection 2011 Event in Singapore today. Nokia N9 is the first-of-its-kind pure-touch smart phone (without any physical menu/navigation button at front) – also a first 1GHz/1GB RAM Nokia device. Nokia also announced a new style of UI navigation on N9; described as “navigation made simple with everything done with a simple gesture, just a swipe of a finger”. It means that you can do a lot of things with “swiping” gesture – open Messages or any app without tapping, drag a playing video (in half of the screen) and see menu (or any other app) in the other half (called “real-multitasking”), see all the apps (maximum 9 at a time) running at the same time (real time) and much more. Actually all the gestures can’t be described in words; you can see it in action in this YouTube video. Interestingly Nokia has created a special page (swipe.nokia.com) to describe the intricacies of this “revolutionary new swipe” function and N9.
