Now you can easily root AT&T or Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 using a new one-click root app called “Towelroot”. This tool has been created by the PS3-jailbreak-fame developer “geohot”. Towelroot is specifically promoted for AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S5, however the developer claims that it should root almost any Android phone having a kernel built before 3rd June 2014 (i.e. upto KitKat 4.4.2 but not for v4.4.3). So if you want to root your Galaxy S5 then look no further, follow the steps described below –
Warning – Rooting is a double-edged sword, by breaking the manufacturers restrictions it opens up whole new possibilities of customization and take the user experience to a whole new level; on the flip side rooting make the OS more vulnerable to corruption, malware attacks etc. Thus it is a power, which is safe only in hands who know how to use it properly. So you must be well-versed with all the rooting stuff before going ahead with the actual process otherwise you may end up bricking your phone one way or the other. Also use this rooting tool at your own risk, I am (or the developer is) not responsible if anything goes wrong. Your phone must be running Android KitKat v4.4.2 or older to use Towelroot. Good to go?
Head to the official site of Towelroot
Click the big “Lambda” icon to download the Towelroot apk file
Install this apk in your Galaxy S5
After successful installation, tap the Towelroot app icon and let it do all the dirty work – wait for the rooting process to complete – phone will restart and if everything goes fine you will have a rooted phone within no time. You can check the root status of your phone using free RootChecker app. If you face any issues, you can contact the developer via his email or ask for help at the XDA forum. Towelroot is free to use however do consider donating some money to the developer for further development of this great tool.
