Update (22nd Jan. 2013) – Today Opera updated its popular Opera Mini mobile web browser for Symbian to version 7.1 This is a minor update with some improvements and bug-fixes. Following are the major noticeable changes in the new version (almost all are download manager related) –
1. A new improved download manager – download function has been revamped with addition of some much-needed features like –
Now you can edit name of the file before downloading it
Resume support has been added (if supported by file server) for failed/incomplete/interrupted downloads which is available even after Opera Mini exits and launched again
Download target folder is saved for music and other file types (so you won’t have to enter it every time)
A warning dialogue appears if the downloaded file with the same name already exists
2. Smart page, speed dial, localization and connection stability improvements and bug fixes
Below is the previous post describing change-log of Opera Mini version 7 – the last major update (written on 31st May 2012)
Native Symbian, Blackberry and Java/J2ME version of Opera Mini 7 (“dogwood”) came out of Next (Beta) channel today (31st May 2012). After months of testing as Opera Mini Next, Opera released stable version of Opera Mini 7 for Symbian (all versions), Blackberry and Java phones. Interestingly final version of Mini 7 for Android and iOS was released a month back which indicates the dominance of these two OSes among mobile platforms. Feature-wise, if you have used Opera Mini Next, you won’t notice any difference. Nevertheless here are the main highlights of Opera Mini 7 in comparison to previous version (6.5) –
Home-page has seen a complete makeover and is now a two-tab page – a speed dials page and a new “Home” tab. This “Home” shows History, shortcuts to popular sites plus Facebook and Twitter integration (quite similar to UC Browser).
Restriction on the number of Speed dials has been removed which means you can have as many speed dials as you wish (and not just 9). Besides speed dials re-arrangement has been simplified by “drag and drop” support
You can download Opera Mini 7.1 from m.opera.com via your mobile browser or opera.com/mobile at desktop (to choose a version according to your mobile OS). It is available for all Symbian S60 2nd, 3rd, 5th edition, Symbian^3/Anna/Belle/FP1/FP2, Blackberry and Java/J2ME supporting phones.
Interestingly the download link for Opera Mini Next (m.opera.com/next) will also redirect to the stable version now – until of course the new “Next version 8” becomes available.
