Even Elop would admit that YouTube experience at Symbian phones is not at all satisfactory in comparison to Androids. Worse, the official YouTube app for Symbian is also of no help when it comes to playing videos in HD (there is no option to change video resolution in it). So, does all this mean that YouTube videos can’t be played at high resolution in your Symbian device? Well, the good news is that a solution does exist for this problem. FastTube is a free app for Symbian^3 (Anna, Belle), which can play any YouTube video in High Definition (if the video is available in HD).
Interestingly FastTube plays YouTube videos in HD using the phone’s built-in video player which shows the capability of native app and raises the question why Nokia has not realized this?
Anyway, besides video playback, you can browse popular categories of videos (Featured, Most Viewed, Top Rated, Most Recent sorted by country, today and this week) or search all videos by name in FastTube. On selecting a video, three resolution options appear below the video thumbnail – HD (720p), High and Low. You can select any of the three and touch the “play video”. FastTube will start playing the video in the selected resolution. FastTube is available free at Nokia Ovi Store for all Symbian^3 phones (Nokia 603, 701, N8, C7, E7 etc).
Note however that a fast internet connection is required to stream videos in HD/High resolution so use a free Wi-Fi network for this purpose. At slow network you can still play videos by selecting “Low res” option.
