Software Update News – Nokia C6-00 (v42.0.4) and Nokia N9 (MeeGo PR1.2 SW v30.2012.7.1) Get Firmware Update

Feb 2012 was fantastic for Nokia fans as goodies continued to roll out from Nokia throughout the month (Belle release for older phones, N9 update, 41 MP Nokia 808 PureView announcement etc). Two popular Nokia phones also got major firmware updates in the last week of Feb.

First it was Nokia N9 (MeeGo-Harmattan) which got PR1.2 (SW v30.2012.7.1) with many new features. At over 280 MB, this is certainly a major OS update. Nokia has released this update in “waves” which means it is being rolled out in phased manner in different regions of the world (perhaps to avoid server overload due to millions of simultaneous downloads). As of now, however this update is available for almost all N9 product codes at Navifirm. Your phone will notify you of the update, however you can also manually check via “Settings/ Applications/ Manage Applications/ Updates” whether PR1.2 is available for your N9. If available you can update OTA (Over The Air) – a fast Wi-Fi connection is recommended and double check that battery is full, better get it on charging.

Nokia C6-00 (Symbian S60 5th ed. slider phone) also got a firmware update v42.0.4 this past week. This seems to be a minor update (just over 500 KB) described as “improves phone’s performance and brings you the latest features”. You can update C6-00 via OTA, NSU (Nokia Software Updater) or via Nokia Suite. But remember to backup your data before update to be on safer side.

A little off topic but a question that baffles me is – there are five India specific product codes of N9, constantly appearing at Navifirm along with updates. But I wonder when will India get N9? Why Nokia is holding the launch of N9 in India? There is a huge market and fan following of Nokia in India, perhaps Elop does not know it!
